Quarried in the mountains just outside the city of Carrara, the stone is celebrated for its white to blue-grey base and natural grey veining—an elegant, durable choice for a premium fireplace surround.

Carrara has been prized since Roman times for its strength, fine grain, and ability to take crisp detail. While the pure white “statuario” grade used historically for monumental sculpture is now extremely limited, today’s Bianca Carrara typically shows a soft grey cast or grey/near-black streaks over white—ideal for creating subtle movement across the bolection profile.

Two common selections are available depending on the block and quarry face:

• Carrara C: A cleaner white ground with light grey veins or pin-dots for a more uniform, refined look.
• Carrara CD: A slightly deeper background with stronger grey to near-black veining for added character.
